Sushmita to play Ashoka's wife

Sushmita Sen has repeatedly confessed wanting to be part of a historical project. It has never happened, until now.

If all goes well, she will play Emperor Ashoka's fifth wife in a film on the Mauryan emperor that Pinjar director Dr Chandraprakash Diwedi is about to make.

Diwedi has been working on the project round-the-clock. "I met Sushmita for Ashoka and not Jhansi Ki Rani, as was reported by a section of the press," he says. "And she is extremely excited about it."

Two years ago, Sushmita had been offered an item song in Santosh Sivan's Asoka, but she refused. 'If I do a historical, I want to be an integral part of it,' she had argued.

Anil Sharma brings the three Deols together

The last time more than one generation of a film family came together it was for Randhir Kapoor's Kal Aaj Aur Kal which starred grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor, father Raj Kapoor and himself.

Now it's time for the three Deols — Dharmendra and his two sons Sunny and Bobby — to be cast together. The long-on-the-anvil project has been titled 'Apne'. It stars Katrina Kaif along with the three Deols.

Though Sunny and Bobby came together as brothers in Dillagi which Sunny directed, they avoided the temptation of casting their dad and let Dara Singh do the needful. Says Bobby, "We were very sure that we'd come together with dad only in a project worthy of such casting. Anil Sharma who's a family friend is someone we're all comfortable with."

Earlier, Guddu Dhanoa who's the Deol brothers' cousin was also given the task of devising a project for the three Deols. Finally it's Sharma who's the chosen one. He directed Sunny in the all-time hit Gadar three years ago and the boxoffice fiasco The Hero two years ago. Sharma also directed Bobby in the super-disastrous Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyon.
